Farmers Markets - Buy Local

6/18/2013

My favorite part of summer has to be, hands-down, the local Farmers' Markets. Luckily, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties have several great places to buy local. Each of these places are open year-round and have their own particular schedule of business days/hours. So. in theory, if you like shopping for fresh foods and a short, leisurely drive, you visit one market each day of the week......

Roots Country Market   (rhymes with foot)
Located at 705 Graystone Road, Manheim, PA - Roots is the oldest single family run country market in Lancaster County. Established in 1925 by A.W. Root as a poultry auction, Root's Country Market & Auction includes a produce auction and 200+ stand-holders with fresh meats, deli, bakeries, nursery and flowers, handmade crafts, antiques, collectibles and household items of all kinds. Open Tuesdays only, April to Oct - 9 AM to 9 PM,  Nov. to March - 9 AM to 8 PM.

The Green Dragon
Located on 30 acres at 955 North State Street, Ephrata, PA - The Green Dragon opened in 1932 and has 7 large market buildings and many other smaller shops, which include 400 local growers, merchants and craftsmen. For me, the best part of Green Dragon are the shops with houseware, furniture, clothing & accessories. Open Fridays only, 9am - 9pm (8pm Jan & Feb).

Lancaster Central Market  -  Meet me at Market!
I love Lancaster City! A very yummy place to hang out, the Lancaster Central Market is the country's oldest farmers' market, located at 23 North Market Street, Lancaster, PA for more than 275 years! There are approximately 66 vendors with meats, fruits & vegetables, bakery goods, prepared foods and flowers. I love these pages on their website providing information and history of Lancaster City and the marketplace and building. Open Tuesdays and Fridays, 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Saturdays, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm year-round; the market is also a great place to buy souvenirs.

Lebanon Farmers Market
Lebanon's Farmers Market House is located at 35 South 8th Street and the original 1892 Farm Market Building is home to a varied list of more than 30 Farm Market Vendors, Lebanon Picture Frame and Fine Art, The Market House Bakery & Cafe and Niko's Restaurant. Open Thursdays 8:00-7:00, Fridays 8:00-7:00 and Saturdays 7:00-3:00.
